Working notes

Scope: detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses of not more than three stories follow the Michigan Residential Code instead of Part 7 (R 408.30711, amending IPC Section 101.2). The Part 7 rules were filed November 13, 2023 and took effect 120 days after filing. A proposed Part 7 update to the 2024 IPC (rule set 2025-8 LR) was reported as published in the July 15, 2026 Michigan Register but not yet filed or effective as of late October 2026; that status rests on a non-official tracker summary and was not confirmed from an official source in this pass, so the 2021 IPC-based code is recorded as in force.
